Plan a 20-Page Comic: Panels, AI Models, Credits, and Text
Estimate the cost of a multi-page comic, choose between low-cost and high-quality models, and add dialogue, captions, sound effects, and covers.
Estimate by panel, not by page
A comic page can contain two, four, six, or more panels. LlamaGen's comic generation is priced per generated panel according to your model, so a 20-page comic does not have one fixed credit cost.
Start with the panel count:
20 pages × 4 panels per page = 80 panels.
Here are initial-generation examples for 80 panels using different credit costs:
| Selected comic model cost | Credits for 80 panels |
|---|---|
| 50 credits / panel | 4,000 |
| 100 credits / panel, if available | 8,000 |
| 150 credits / panel — Comic Auto Model default | 12,000 |
| 300 credits / panel | 24,000 |
| 600 credits / panel | 48,000 |
These are examples, not guaranteed charges for every account or model. Model access and displayed charges vary by workflow and plan. A second generation, redrawing, cover artwork, or other paid step may add to the total.
Important: Anime Auto Model defaults to 100 credits per anime image generation. Comic Auto Model defaults to 150 credits per comic panel. The two workflows are priced separately. Learn why.
Compare models by actual dollars per panel
Raw credit numbers from two different products are not directly comparable. To compare cost, first find your actual plan price, the number of usable credits on that plan, and the cost per comic panel for the model you choose.
- Estimated panels per dollar = plan credits ÷ (plan price in USD × credits per panel).
- Estimated cost per panel = plan price in USD × credits per panel ÷ plan credits.
For example, if a plan includes 45,000 usable credits for $30 (an illustrative monthly price, not a checkout quote), then:
| Model cost | Theoretical panels per $1 | Theoretical cost / panel |
|---|---|---|
| 50 credits / panel | 30 | $0.033 |
| Comic Auto Model · 150 credits / panel | 10 | $0.10 |
| 300 credits / panel | 5 | $0.20 |
This calculation assumes the entire allowance is spent on successful initial panel generation and excludes revisions, covers, other operations, unused credits, taxes, and any plan or model restrictions. Always check the current Pricing page and your plan's actual included credits.
Choose your AI model before generating
- Open AI Comic Strips and enter your script or story.
- Open More Options → Model → Select a model.
- For rough drafts or a limited budget, compare the lower-cost models shown in your picker.
- For stronger detail or more demanding scenes, compare higher-tier models. Each has different strengths in cost, quality, and speed.
- The default Comic Auto Model uses 150 credits per panel and automatically chooses a suitable model. Review the current model's output options in the product.
- Review the total shown before starting a large batch, and test a short sequence before committing to all 80 panels.
Use the Episode Cost Calculator for a planning estimate and Usage for actual deductions. The final cost shown in your generation workflow is the relevant price.
What about dialogue, captions, and sound effects?
In the comic creation options, Comic Text controls whether dialogue and text are generated inside panels. Enable it when you want the generated panels to contain text, then check the wording, speaker attribution, spelling, and reading order in the output.
Comic Text is not a guarantee that every page will automatically have perfectly formatted dialogue, editable captions, and sound effects. Some lettering is part of the generated image; editable text objects are different. Where the editor supports it, refine speech bubbles, captions, and sound effects after generation.
For changes to generated images or editable lettering, see Edit your comic and Speech bubbles and text troubleshooting.
Add front and back covers
Plan front-cover and back-cover artwork separately from the body-panel estimate. Design your front cover first, then prepare a back cover with the blurb, credits, or other material your publication needs. Review cover art and text carefully before export.
Start with How to Design a Comic Book Cover. Do not assume the default cost for 80 body panels already includes both covers.
A practical workflow for a longer comic
- Split the script into chapters, pages, and panels.
- Set up recurring characters and references before generating.
- Generate a few representative panels to compare models and check style consistency.
- Estimate the remaining panel cost based on the model you actually selected.
- Enable Comic Text when you want dialogue in the generated artwork.
- Review every panel, then make focused corrections; don't regenerate the whole comic to fix one scene.
- Add and verify captions, sound effects, front cover, and back cover as needed.
- Check page order and export formats supported by your editor and plan.
