Manga Editor Quick Start: First Page to Export

This quick start takes one page from blank canvas to export. Prepare two to four images, a short dialogue script, and a clear reading order before opening Manga Editor.

Before you begin

1. Put the source images in one local folder.
2. Decide whether the page reads left-to-right or right-to-left.
3. Shorten dialogue until each bubble has breathing room.
4. Keep a backup copy of irreplaceable artwork.

Build the page

Select a layout

Choose a preset close to the intended rhythm. Avoid cutting a complicated custom grid before the story beats are placed. You can refine panel proportions after checking how the images and dialogue fit.

Add art in reading order

Place the first image in the first panel, then continue through the page. Adjust crop and scale inside each panel. Leave visual space near the top or sides for dialogue instead of covering a face or key action.

Add bubbles and text

Create the bubble, then add text as an editable object. Use vertical text for Japanese manga layouts when appropriate; use horizontal text for most Western comic and web distribution. Keep a consistent font, stroke, and padding across the page.

Review the layer stack

The typical top-to-bottom order is lettering, speech bubbles, effects, panel borders, then artwork. Complex pages may differ, but text should not disappear behind an image or crop boundary.

Save a recoverable version

Download an editable project file after the first stable layout and again after lettering. Browser autosave provides recovery for interrupted sessions, while project files provide deliberate milestones you can archive or move between devices.

Export checklist

• Reading order is unambiguous.
• Faces and important actions are not cropped.
• Dialogue is legible at normal display size.
• No bubble tail points at the wrong speaker.
• Layer order is correct.
• Spelling and punctuation are final.
• The editable project file is saved separately.
